Updated: Jun 11, 2019

A thriller story with a lot of suspense and mystery is here!

Read the previous chapter- The First Suspect

Previously, on Missing- A girl, Inara, has jumped off a skywalk and the cops have various evidences relating to one single suspect, Vinay, Inara's ex. After a lot of talking and hitting, Inspector Jayveer is able to extract one piece of information. "Rajiv! He has a motive to kill her."

The poster of the thriller series MISSING. One of the best mystery and psychological thriller story. A murder mystery you might never have read. Full of suspense and twists.

The sun was at its highest when Jayveer and Sudhir started towards Rajiv’s place after gathering all the information they could.

“Sudhir, what do you think about this boy, Vinay?” he asked, swaying his glasses in his left hand out of the window.

“Not sure sir. I don’t think he can do any such thing sir.” To his reply, Jayveer observed his face from the rear view mirror.

“What do you mean?”

“What I mean is that, he was already scared when we entered.”

“Yes, sir. The landlady told me, that the previous day she heard him listening to songs which something she hadn’t heard after Inara had disappeared. She knew about them. And, she also mentioned that he had been inside since morning and was shouting something unclear,” added Gandhari.

“Hmmm. But the evidences are all against him. The missing knife, the struggling marks on Inara’s as well as Vinay’s body, the fight that they had might have resulted in such rage. Even her mother told that he was harassing her.”

“But, sir she wasn’t sure about it,” said Sudhir.

With the debate all the way, they reached Rajiv’s place. On ringing the doorbell, the maid opened the door and hastily called for his Saab.

“What is it Inspector?” a bloke said. Square face, dark complexion. This must be Rajiv’s father, Jayveer thought.

“We’re here to talk to Rajiv regarding a murder-cum-suicide case. We would like to note his statements in the police station.”

“What nonsense? What has my son to do with any murder or suicide case?” Rajiv’s father asked, wroth.

“What is it Satish?” a woman called as she came running towards the door, tagging along, a boy in his twenties.

“Sir, ma’am, please ask Rajiv to come with us to police station or we do have a search warrant and I suppose you know very well how our search operations undergo,” Jayveer said. His stern glare could melt a glacier.

“Why me? Whose murder? I have nothing to do with any suicide or murder case, believe me sir,” the boy stammered.

“I’m not sure, if you know anything, but, we here, know many things that might intrigue you. Come on, get along quick,” bantered Gandhari.

“Rajiv, go with the inspector to the police station, but do not speak a word. You go with them until I arrange for a lawyer. I repeat do not speak a word until the lawyer arrives. We too have some rights and I know very well how to use them.”

“Sir, you can’t meddle with a suspect. You have all the right to shut up as we interrogate your son and you have naught to do with any of this. This is a murder case and we must be serious about it,” retorted Jayveer.

Satish gave an agreeing nod to his son before they left. En route, Jayveer briefed him about whatever had happened.

As soon as they reached the station, Jayveer asked Rajiv if there was anyone he suspected who would do such heinous crime.

“Vinay. Vinay Saroj, sir. He never liked any of us. Inara and I were in the same batch. We were good friends but, we didn’t talk much out in public, so, many never knew about us. Vinay had started liking Inara, but she didn’t. Once, to mock him, she told him that if he went with her, she would consider their relationship. It was on that day, that we were introduced to his calamitous nature. Something happened and he started throwing things and broke many antiques. Inara had slapped him in front of everyone. Since then, he never talked to any of us. Many a times girls would look at him and laugh, which might have hurt his ego and that is why he might have done whatever has happened to Inara.”

"After all these years, how are you so sure about his name and what had happened around three years back? This makes me suspect you more than Vinay."

"I have always loathed him sir. Inara and I were best friends. We both had that soft corner for each other. We were getting closer until he came in her life from nowhere and she parted ways from me," answered Rajiv in despair.

“Will you tell all of this in court? The same as you narrated to me?”

“Yes, sir I will. I will do anything to get hold of the culprit.”

“Oh come on man! You will get hold of the culprit, Vinay wants to catch the culprit, then what the fuck am I doing here??!!” Jayveer yelled in frustration.

Trying to find the culprit, sir.”

“Shut up Gandhari!” Sudhir said, walking towards Jayveer. “Sir, now we have a strong case against Vinay. But, sir, why do you think Vinay gave Rajiv's name as a suspect? He said Rajiv has a motive to kill Inara.”

They walked out of the station. Lighting a cigarette, Jayveer said.

“That is what I am unable to understand here. This Rajiv, he is hiding something. And as for Vinay, I believe he might have something to say about Rajiv.”

“What then, sir? Shall we go and interrogate him?”

“Let him be Sudhir. Let him rest for a while. Let him prepare for a fight he has the least chance of winning. The court hearing begins day after tomorrow. Inara's parent's won't rest until they see Vinay hanging or behind the bars serving a life sentence. I've asked Yashwant to get a good lawyer for Vinay. His case is already weak and Inara's parent's are well to do and they might go to any lengths. I know this case won’t last three hearings. Everything is crystal clear. All we must do is, just wait and watch…”
